Accreditation

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership have a UKAS accredited medical laboratory No. 8285.

This schedule of accreditation covers each of the seven sites. For information on individual scopes of accreditation, please see below or visit UKAS.com

If you can not find the test that you require, this may be because we do not offer the test, we refer the test to another laboratory, or because the test is not yet UKAS accredited. When we make a change to our service, we must undergo a UKAS assessment and this can sometime take 3-6 months, leading to a gap in accreditation. The tests that are not currently within our scope of accreditation are listed in the accreditation exclusion tabs below. If you have any questions, please email the relevant department or bartshealth.pathology.governance@nhs.net.

Blood Transfusion Accreditation Exclusions

Elution testing is not currently included within the UKAS accredited scope of our Blood Transfusion service. This test is currently not being performed at the RLH Laboratory (Main Hub) AND is referred to an appropriate, external laboratory where required. In-house testing will be subject to a future UKAS Extension to Scope (ETS), scheduled for a later date.

Test Name: Elution

Analyser/Kit: Ortho Workstation

Site: RLH

Cellular Pathology Accreditation Exclusions

Retinoblastoma Accreditation Exclusions

Amplification-Refractory Mutation System PCR (ARMS-PCR). Can be done with any Taq Polymerase on any Thermal Cycler.

Restriction enzyme digests for known variation sites in DNA. Products could be amplified with any Taq Polymerase and digested with an endonuclease that will be specific to one specific DNA coding change. Can be done on any Thermal Cycler.

ARMS and RFLP both involve PCR steps and Fragment analysis (on ABI3730 and/or by agarose gel electrophoresis).

These tests can be used to confirm the presence of RB1 variants in hard to sequence regions. No reports are based solely on these tests.

Any tests that are performed/reported ‘on a research basis’ are noted as such in reports.

Extension to Scope (ETS) applied for;

The NucleoSpin Blood L kit (Macheray-Nagel) is used for genomic DNA extraction (manual extraction).

Platinum Taq DNA Polymerase (Invitrogen), and HotStar Taq DNA Polymerase (Qiagen) are used for PCR based tests.

ProFlex thermal cyclers are used for PCR and RT-PCR based stages of tests.

The ABI3730xl (updated instrument - not a new procedure/test) is used for Sanger Sequencing and Fragment analysis.
